How to play Werewolf
The roles
- Werewolf
Wakes at night with any other wolves and picks who goes. By day, looks innocent.
- Seer
Wakes at night and learns whether one player is a wolf. Then has to convince everyone else.
- Doctor
Wakes at night and protects one player, themselves included. If the wolves picked that player, nobody is lost.
- Villager
No powers. Just a vote.
How many wolves to deal
| Players | Werewolves |
|---|---|
| 5–7 | 1 |
| 8–11 | 2 |
| 12–16 | 3 |
Add one Seer and one Doctor, and everyone else is a Villager.
How a round runs
- Deal in secret. Everyone closes their eyes and looks up only to see their own role.
- Night. With eyes shut, the wolves pick who goes, the Doctor protects someone and the Seer looks at someone. Each wakes in turn and goes back to sleep.
- Morning. The room hears who was lost, or that nobody was.
- Talk. Everyone argues about who is lying.
- Vote. The player with the most votes is out. Then night falls again.

Who wins
- The Village wins when every Werewolf is out.
- The Werewolves win when there are as many wolves left as everyone else.
Common questions
- What happens if the Werewolf vote is tied?
- Nobody goes. The day ends and night falls.
- Can the Doctor protect themselves?
- Yes, every night if they want to. Some groups play stricter house rules, such as never protecting yourself or never the same person twice running.
- Can you play Werewolf without a Seer or a Doctor?
- Yes. Wolves and villagers alone is the easiest game for a first-time room to hold in its head.
